Collection II · For the Fiber Arts
Sculpted crochet hooks, knitting needles, seam rippers, spindles and the tools that make hours of making easier on the hands.
The collection
Makers hold their tools for hours. A turned and sculpted handle can be shaped to the hand that will use it: a waist for the fingers, a swell for the palm, a weight that settles rather than tires. The colour is the joy; the shape is the point.

From the studio
Each of these exists once. Open any piece for its story, then commission one in its spirit.

Sculpted for the hand that crochets for hours: a waist for the fingers and a swell for the palm.

Northern-light colours in a handle shaped to the grip of the person who will use it.

Soft grey, carved in a gentle spiral.

A tide pool in the palm: blue resin around spalted burl.

An hourglass waist so the fingers always know where they are.

Hand-sculpted after turning, so it fits one grip better than any other.
What can be made
Every piece starts from a refined mechanism or from nothing at all. Choose a starting point here, then the wood, the resin and the finish with William. Every option below is something he can make for you.

Tiers describe the depth of the work: Core pieces are built around a refined mechanism, High pieces use premium hardware and rarer materials, Apex pieces are made almost entirely on the lathe. Final options are confirmed with William.
Materials
Five levels of material, from figured domestic burl to meteorite. Every tier is chosen with you; legality and sourcing are checked before a single blank is cut.
Maple burl · Buckeye burl · Black walnut · Spalted maple
Warm, figured and full of character.
Ebony · Ziricote · Bocote · Amboyna burl
Dense, rare grain from around the world, sourced legally.
Stabilized burl · Cholla cactus · Pinecone · Hand-poured resin
Burl and resin cast together, then turned to reveal both.
Meteorite inlay · Ancient kauri · Mokume-gane
The rarest work in the gallery.
Wood from a family home · A fallen tree · A piece of old furniture
The most meaningful material is often already yours.
Questions
That is one of the best reasons to commission one. Tell the concierge how you hold your hook or needle, and where it hurts after an hour, and William can shape the handle around it.
Many handles are built around standard hook heads in a range of sizes. Ask in your brief and William will confirm the options for the design you like.
Yes: hooks in graduated sizes, needles with a matching case, or a full set turned from the same blank so every piece belongs together.
The design concierge
Talk with the DeVito Gallery concierge, an AI that speaks in William's own voice. It asks the questions he would ask, then hands him your brief.
You will see what it can and cannot do before the microphone turns on. Conversations are recorded so William can follow up.
Commissions
Tell William who it is for, what they love, and what you have in mind. He reads every brief himself and replies personally.
