Collection V · The Pipe & Cigar
Tobacco pipes, tampers, pipe stands, cigar tubes and cutters for the collector who keeps the old rituals.
The collection
Pipe and cigar culture is built on patience, and so is turning. A briar or burl pipe, a tamper turned to fit the thumb, a stand for the rack and a cigar tube for the road: pieces made for an evening that is not in a hurry.
This collection is for adults of legal smoking age and is made for tobacco only. Stems and cutter blades are sourced from specialist makers; the bowls, shanks, tubes and handles are turned here.
This collection is for adults of legal smoking age (21+ in the United States). Tobacco accessories only.
The first pieces in this collection are made to commission. Yours could be the one that defines it.
The first edition
This collection is made to order. There is no stock and no shelf: tell William about the person and the ritual, and the first piece is designed around them.
What can be made
Every piece starts from a refined mechanism or from nothing at all. Choose a starting point here, then the wood, the resin and the finish with William. Every option below is something he can make for you.

Tiers describe the depth of the work: Core pieces are built around a refined mechanism, High pieces use premium hardware and rarer materials, Apex pieces are made almost entirely on the lathe. Final options are confirmed with William.
Materials
Five levels of material, from figured domestic burl to meteorite. Every tier is chosen with you; legality and sourcing are checked before a single blank is cut.
Maple burl · Buckeye burl · Black walnut · Spalted maple
Warm, figured and full of character.
Ebony · Ziricote · Bocote · Amboyna burl
Dense, rare grain from around the world, sourced legally.
Stabilized burl · Cholla cactus · Pinecone · Hand-poured resin
Burl and resin cast together, then turned to reveal both.
Meteorite inlay · Ancient kauri · Mokume-gane
The rarest work in the gallery.
Wood from a family home · A fallen tree · A piece of old furniture
The most meaningful material is often already yours.
Questions
Yes. These are tobacco accessories for adults of legal smoking age (21 and over in the United States), and commissions are confirmed with the buyer directly.
Pipe bowls need dense, heat-tolerant wood; briar burl is the classic. William will talk you through what is suitable for a working pipe versus a display piece.
Yes: a travel tube, a cutter handle and an ashtray or stand turned from the same blank, often as a gift for a milestone.
The design concierge
Talk with the DeVito Gallery concierge, an AI that speaks in William's own voice. It asks the questions he would ask, then hands him your brief.
You will see what it can and cannot do before the microphone turns on. Conversations are recorded so William can follow up.
Commissions
Tell William who it is for, what they love, and what you have in mind. He reads every brief himself and replies personally.
